Account Deletion
Overview
You have the right to delete your Shelfeesh account at any time. This page explains how to delete your account and what happens to your data when you do.
How to Delete Your Account
Open the Shelfeesh App
Launch the Shelfeesh mobile application on your device and ensure you are logged into your account.
Navigate to Settings
Go to your profile tab and tap on the "Settings" option, usually represented by a gear icon.
Find Account Management
Scroll down to the "Account Management" section and tap on "Delete Account".
Review Deletion Preview
The app will show you a preview of all data that will be permanently deleted, including:
- All your book reviews and ratings
- Comments on reviews and shelves
- Likes and interactions
- Custom bookshelves
- Your reading library and lists
- Social connections (followers/following)
- Profile information and photos
Confirm Deletion
If you're sure you want to proceed, tap "Delete My Account" and then confirm the action in the subsequent dialog.
Enter Your Password
For security purposes, you'll need to enter your account password to verify your identity before the deletion can proceed.
Final Confirmation
After password verification, tap "Delete Account" one final time to permanently delete your account and all associated data.
What Gets Deleted
When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed from our systems:
📚 Reading Data
- All book reviews and ratings
- Reading lists and library
- Custom bookshelves
- Reading progress and statistics
💬 Social Content
- Comments on reviews and shelves
- Likes and interactions
- Follower/following relationships
- Social activity history
👤 Profile Information
- Profile photos and cover images
- Bio and personal information
- Account preferences
- Email and authentication data
📊 App Data
- Search history
- App preferences and settings
- Notification preferences
- Usage analytics (anonymized)
Data Processing Timeline
Immediate (0-5 minutes)
Your account is deactivated and you are automatically logged out. Your profile becomes inaccessible to other users.
Within 15 minutes
All your content (reviews, comments, shelves) is permanently deleted from our database and cannot be recovered.
Within 30 days
Any remaining data in backup systems is permanently purged. Your email address becomes available for new registrations.
Important Considerations
🔐 Authentication Required
You must be able to access your account and provide your password to delete it. If you've forgotten your password, use the password reset feature first.
💾 No Data Recovery
Once your account is deleted, we cannot recover any of your data. Make sure to export or save any content you want to keep before deleting your account.
📱 App Access Required
Account deletion can only be initiated through the mobile app. We do not currently offer web-based account deletion for security reasons.
⏰ Process Time
The deletion process typically completes within minutes, but some data may take up to 30 days to be fully purged from all backup systems.
Alternatives to Account Deletion
Before deleting your account, consider these alternatives:
📵 Temporary Break
Simply log out and take a break. Your account will remain intact, and you can return anytime.
🔒 Privacy Settings
Adjust your privacy settings to make your profile private or limit who can see your content.
🔕 Notification Management
Turn off notifications in settings if you want to reduce app interactions without deleting your account.
